I recommend the gold over the standard, they give you a longer time between charges. I have been using the Versa-pak powered tools for years, and though they are underpowered by todays's standards, they still do the job. These packs are expensive, but they are well made and long lasting, and if you want to continue to use the B&D tools, you have to have them.

Still very good - drives my old VersaPack screwdriver and cordless drill just fine - no need to upgrade for smaller jobs around the house, the newer models aren't much better.
Batteries were new and fresh, and cheaper than at my local Lowes or Home Depot.
